Do you have strong interpersonal skills and like to work with people? Working in the Medical Office Administration field you'll need to have good typing, spelling, grammar and speaking skills. You'll need to know about and understand insurance regulations and clinical procedures, as well as medical terminology and transcription.
As a medical records and health information technician, you'll organize and manage health information data. Your job will be to ensure its quality, accuracy, accessibility and security in both paper and electronic systems (EHRs). Medical office administrators use various classification systems to code and categorize patient information for insurance reimbursement purposes, for databases and registries and to maintain patients’ medical histories. Doctor's offices, hospitals and outpatient facilities make up the bulk of employers in this field.

Medical administration positions typically work in offices and may spend many hours in front of computer monitors. More than half of those employed as medical records and health information technicians work in hospitals or physicians’ offices, dental offices and most others work in various healthcare settings.
Employment of health information technicians is projected to grow 15 percent through 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. The demand for health services is expected to increase as the population ages.
