Are you creative, enjoy meeting new people and like to make them look and feel good? Then a career in Cosmetology may be for you. Cosmetologists often enjoy the freedom to set their own schedule and use their skills to supplement their income while pursing other goals or focusing on their family. This area of study can give you the option to own your own business and be your own boss!
NPC's dedicated and experienced professional instructors will expertly prepare you for a career in the creative world of cosmetology. Not only do they train you in the basic theories of manicuring, skin care, hair cutting, coloring, perming and styling, they teach you the latest advances, techniques and trends.
NPC courses are geared to meet the exacting regulations of the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology, qualifying you for the board's mandatory licensing exams in Hairstyling (1000 hours), Nail Technician (600 hours), Cosmetology (1500 hours) or as an Instructor (350 hours + current state cosmetologist license).
- Our program has one of the highest pass rates for the state licensing exam – at one of the lowest tuition and program costs in Arizona!
- NPC also offers a certificate of proficiency in Cosmetology Instructor (must have a current cosmetology license).
- Students must also submit a Cosmetology Application Packet (in addition to the new student admission form). See Entry Requirements below for details.

Work Environment
Hairdressers and cosmetologists work mostly in a salon, although some may work in a spa, hotel or resort. Some lease booth space from a salon owner while others manage salons or open their own shop after several years of experience. Physical stamina is important, because they are on their feet for most of their shift. Prolonged exposure to some chemicals may cause skin irritation, so they often wear protective clothing, such as disposable gloves or aprons.
Job Outlook
Competition for positions at higher-end salons is fierce, with the edge going to licensed cosmetologists with training and experience in a range of services.
Salary
With experience, a skilled cosmetologist can build an ever-growing and well-paying client base. Opportunities even exist for you to run your own business! See salary information below.
