Update: March 26, 2020
Dear Northland Pioneer College community,
NPC’s top priority is the health and safety of our students, employees, and community members. On Tuesday, executive staff held an extensive discussion with the District Governing Board regarding the College’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The end result of this discussion was a decision to close college facilities to the public and students, effective March 30th, until further notice. Our decision mirrors that of our local K-12 districts and several sister community colleges. This is not a step we take lightly, and we will do our best as a College to continue the work of the institution on behalf of our students and communities.
We will continue the suspension of classes through April 5th,, giving faculty time to move classes into an online/distance environment. Classes will resume in this revised format on April 6th. A few classes which cannot be offered in an online or distance format will be canceled. Students will not be financially penalized for these cancellations, and will be notified by the College if their class is cancelled.
NPC faculty and staff are also quickly moving now to primarily work in a remote/telecommute format until further notice. The College will be informing students of online and distance learning support and advising options that will be available to them. We are committed to our community and to providing a quality education; and, will utilize this time to ensure that our student learning outcomes will not be compromised during this transition.
Following this announcement, we will contact our employees and students with more detailed information that pertains specifically to them. In addition, further information can be found on this webpage. We realize that employees, students, and community members have many questions, and we are diligently working to communicate as much as possible. Please continue to regularly check the website.
Beyond the current course suspension noted above, the College has also made the following decisions related to general college operations:
- Community events taking place at NPC sites are canceled until further notice. All payments made for affected events will be refunded.
- All NPC spring semester completer events, including spring commencement, are canceled. We will provide more information about alternatives to traditional mass-gathering completer events in upcoming messages.
NPC’s leadership will continue to work diligently to keep our community informed and safe. The current health crisis in the United States is evolving rapidly. The College may need to change its current plans with little notice to respond to emerging events or at the direction of federal, state, or local governments. Please do your part in this process by checking this website regularly and watching for email updates from the College.

With the recent Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns, we are taking proactive measures to reduce the risk of exposure by implementing college-wide social distancing practices. Our Executive Team, in collaboration with our Learning and Student Services leadership, has decided to suspend ALL classes, college-wide, from March 23rd through April 5th. NPC’s faculty and staff will use this two-week period to prepare to migrate as many course offerings as possible to an online or hybrid format. Following this announcement, we will contact our employees and students with more detailed information that pertains specifically to them. What is COVID-19?
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
What can I do to protect myself and prevent the spread of the disease?
- Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water or clean them with an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Maintain at least 6 foot distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Your hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses.
- Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze, then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
- STAY HOME if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention.
- Keep up to date on the latest COVID-19 hotspots (cities or local areas where COVID-19 is spreading widely) and avoid traveling to those places. You have a higher chance of catching COVID-19 in one of these areas.
What should I do if I am sick?
- STAY HOME!: People who are mildly ill with COVID-19 are able to isolate at home during their illness. You should restrict activities outside your home, except for getting medical care.
- Avoid Public Areas: Do not go to work, school, or public areas. Avoid using public transportation, ride-sharing, or taxis.
- Stay Away From Others: As much as possible, you should stay in a specific room and away from other people in your home. Also, you should use a separate bathroom, if available.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw used tissues in a lined trash can. Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or, if soap and water are not available, clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
