HOLBROOK – The Navajo County Community College District Governing Board has scheduled a special meeting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, in the Tiponi Community Center on the Holbrook – Painted Desert Campus, 2251 E. Navajo Blvd., to adopt a reduced general fund budget and the capital expenditure budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Following truth in taxation and budget public hearings on May 15, the board voted to reduce the property tax levy and rate, instead going with a rate that required a $300,872 reduction from the preliminary budget approved at their April meeting. State law allows a reduction, but no increase once the preliminary budget is approved. The preliminary budget was developed assuming a 2 percent increase in the property tax levy.
The approved tax rate of $1.8164 per $100 of net assessed valuation is an increase of less than 1 cent over the current rate.
Both budgets are posted on the college’s website, www.npc.edu/fy2019-preliminary-budget and www.npc.edu/revised_2018-19_proposed_budget. Comments about the budget can be addressed to Chief Business Officer Maderia Ellison via the online form linked at the top of each budget page.
No changes were proposed in the capital projects budget. Adoption of the capital budget was delayed to coincide with approval of the general fund budget. State law requires adoption of the budgets prior to June 20.
The board’s next regularly-scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. in the Tiponi Community Center on the Holbrook – Painted Desert Campus, 2251 E. Navajo Blvd. Copies of the agenda will be posted online at least 24 hours in advance.
