Pit firing with Adrian Herder

Join us at Northland Pioneer College's Painted Desert Campus in Holbrook for a ceramic pit-firing event! 

Artist, Adrian Herder, will instruct us in this traditional method for firing clay objects. Ceramic pieces created by the NPC Community will be fired in the pit.

  • We will begin the process at 9 am and continue throughout the day until it is completed.
  • Everyone is welcome to visit the firing. We will have some seating and snacks available. The firing will be outdoors in an exposed area, so consider bringing a hat, sunscreen, and a comfortable camp chair if you'd like to hang out with us for a while.
  • After the firing is complete, the pit and ceramic objects will be allowed to cool completely. The pit will be unloaded in the following week.
  • If you made an object for the firing, stay tuned for a future message concerning when objects will be returned to your nearest NPC campus for pick-up.
