Tutoring Services
The purpose of the Tutoring Services is to provide academic support for students to excel in their coursework while
reaching their personal goals. NPC provides free tutoring to most academic areas through Student Services.
It is recommended that you see a tutor when:
- You need help in completing assignments.
- You want assistance in understanding concepts and ideas.
- You want to know more about study skills and preparing for tests.
- You believe that you are falling behind in the semester.
For the 2007 fall semester, NPC is offering all students in English, Math, TLC, Biology, and Chemistry courses the option of
working with a web-based tutor through Smarthinking.com. Smarthinking tutors are experts in their fields and the service offers
a variety of tutoring options, from live drop-in tutoring via a computer to email tutoring. As a NPC student, if you are taking one
of the courses listed above, you already have a Smarthinking account set up (It’s Free!). Just go to
www.smarthinking.com
and type in your username and password at the top of the page. Your username is NPC plus your student ID number.
(For example, NPC12345). Your password is NPC. If you don’t know your student ID number, front office staff or an advisor
can look that up for you.
Academic advising staff and TLC lab aides can assist you in getting started with Smarthinking. You can also use it from your
home computer if you have a stable internet connection.
