Welding (WLD)

The Welding program is designed to teach incremental levels of welding skills that enable students to achieve nationally recognized certifications (NCCER/AWS Level 1 Entry Level Welder and Level 2 Advanced Level Welder).

Each certificate level is acknowledged by industry markets as proof of acquired skills in various forms of welding, cutting, base metal preparation, welding inspection, safety, and metallurgy. This prepares students for certification tests in specific welding code applications, such as AWS, API, and ASME Sec IX.

Students may pursue three levels of learning in Welding:

  1. Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) • 64 credits
  2. Certificate of Applied Science (CAS) • 51 credits
  3. Certificates of Proficiency (CP)  • 6 to 35 credits depending
          on selected area of specialization

For specific courses needed to complete these degrees/certificates speak with an
NPC academic adviser or see the current NPC catalog.
Areas Of Specialization:
  • Certificates of Proficiency (CP) are available in the following:
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) • 9 credits
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) • 6 credits
  • Plastic Welding • 8 credits
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (ARC) • 12 credits
  • Welding Level I - Entry Level Welder • 19 credits
  • Welding Level II - Advanced Welder • 26 credits

Students must complete the requirements for Welding Level I AND receive a Certificate of Proficiency for Level I before receiving the Welding
Level II certificate.
