Protected works include pictorial, graphic, sculptural, architectural.

Face to Face Classroom:
  • The rules for videorecordings, software and Internet in face to face classrooms also apply to audio and art objects.
  • Overhead transparency of architectural drawings can be made and shown in class.
  • Overhead transparency of photographs and pictures can be made if there is no copyright indicated for the image. Consider using the library's Visual Presenter which allows classroom viewing of pages or prints.
  • Artist's or designer's name must be on the transparency.
  • Digitizing art works is permitted for instructional purposes only if the work is not available in that format at a fair price.
Audio/Video Classroom  in addition to the above:
  • Part of integral instructional activity with instructor supervision.
  • Transmission limited to students enrolled in the course.
  • Work cannot be retained in transmission form for longer than the class session.
  • Further dissemination of the work prevented.
  • Copyright notice must be displayed.
  • Public domain material may be used.
Internet Courses in addition to all of the above:
  • Student artwork can be placed in the web course only if student grants permission.
  • Thumbnails of art work may be used.
  • Links can be made to other web sites as long as copyright information is available.
  • Links can be made to articles and images in library databases.
  • Written permission should be obtained for works that are used more than once.
Individual Students in addition to all of the above:
  • Students may photocopy, download, transmit and print images for personal study and class assignments.
  • Credit for the artist must always be given.
  • Links can be made to art works on the Internet.
  • Logos and trademarks cannot be used.
  • Art works may not be digitized unless copyright permission has been granted.
