NPC Summer Children's Theatre to perform The Aristocats

Children, ages 8 to 14, will gain hands-on experience in theatre and performance during a two-week Children’s Theatre Project Workshop at Northland Pioneer College’s Performing Arts Center on the Snowflake/Taylor – Silver Creek Campus.

In its third year, the Children’s Theatre Project has made arrangements with Disney and Music Theatre International to present a musical version of The Aristocats in two public performances on June 6, at Noon and 6 p.m.

The Children’s Theatre Project (NCC-STC-70918) meets from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each weekday, May 27 – 30 and June 2 – 6. The cost is $50 per child. To register, call (800) 266-7845, ext. 7660, weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Children will learn about acting, singing, dancing and technical theatre, as well as how to collaborate with others as they rehearse the show, explains Dr. Michael Solomonson, NPC’s Performing Arts Department chair and theatre director. Their hard work all culminates in free public performances that are open to family, friends and community members, he noted.

In past years, workshop participants performed Art Linkletter’s Kids Say the Darndest Things and Oscar Wilde’s Christian allegory The Selfish Giant.

If you have children or grandchildren, or know of kids who would enjoy this experience, encourage them to enroll in this summer workshop, encouraged Solomonson.

For additional information about the Children’s Theatre Project Workshop, contact Michael Solomonson, 536-6217, or Debra Fisher, 536-6235.
