NPC schedules truth in taxation, budget hearings, May 20

The Navajo County Community College District Governing Board will conduct Truth in Taxation and budget adoption public hearings on the 2008–09 Northland Pioneer College operating budget and district primary property tax rate on Tuesday, May 20, starting at 11 a.m. (M.S.T.) in the Painted Desert Campus Tiponi Community Center [Community Education Center] Conference Room, 2251 N. Navajo Blvd. in Holbrook.

NPC hosts Reiki Clinic, May 17

Therapeutic massage students at Northland Pioneer College’s Show Low – White Mountain Campus will be offering a Reiki Clinic on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in building M4.

Summer workshops, field studies will examine Hopi culture, preservation

Hopi culture, Southwest archaeology and cultural tourism are among the topics being explored in a series of Heritage Preservation workshops and field studies on weekends in June at Northland Pioneer College’s Winslow – Little Colorado Campus, 1400 E. Third St.

Neal Thompson resigns from NPC Governing Board

Neal Thompson, a member of the Navajo County Community College District Governing Board since June 1984, has announced his resignation from the board, effective April 23.

NPC offers ‘Fast Track’ scholarships

Students graduating this year from Navajo or Apache county high schools will automatically be eligible for “Fast Track” tuition scholarships to enroll in summer classes at Northland Pioneer College.

NPC Music Department presents spring concert

A varied program of classical and contemporary vocal and instrumental selections will be performed by the Northland Pioneer College Music Department during their spring concert, Friday, May 2, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the Snowflake/Taylor – Silver Creek Campus. Admission is $4 in advance or $6 at the door. NPC students and staff are eligible for a $1 discount. The May 2 concert is the first in a series of free events highlighting NPC performing arts students all beginning at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

Summer Children's Theatre Project to present The Aristocats

Children, ages 8 to 14, will gain hands-on experience in theatre and performance during a two-week Children’s Theatre Project Workshop at Northland Pioneer College’s Performing Arts Center on the Snowflake/Taylor – Silver Creek Campus. In its third year, the Children’s Theatre Project meets from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each weekday, May 27 – 30 and June 2 – 6. The cost is $50 per child. NPC launches pilot program to improve GED exam success

Beginning in January 2008, individuals wanting to register for the General Education Development (GED) exam at any NPC location or at Chinle High School must first complate a two-part orientation designed to improve their chances of successfully completing the GED exam. Each part is approximately seven hours long.

Financial Aid Office announces campus-center site visits

Representatives from the NPC Financial Aid Office will be visiting campuses and centers to assist students needing to apply for aid, or to answer questions.

First-time homebuyers receive valuable tips to ease the purchasing process during a 2-evening Homes for Arizonans workshop, May 20 and 22 at the Snowflake/Taylor – Silver Creek Campus.

Assistance available for students re-locating to take classes

Students re-locating to continue their education at Northland Pioneer College may qualify for a housing assistance scholarship. Funding is limited each semester, so students are encouraged to apply early for the assistance program.

2-day workshops teach computer fundamentals

Two-day workshops at the Show Low – White Mountain Campus provide an introduction to the most popular computer software applications. Here's a chance to upgrade skills, or get help with a special computer project.

NPC offers concealed weapon permit classes

State-certified workshops required to obtain or renew a Concealed Weapons Permit are offered on a regular basis at NPC’s Silver Creek Campus. Before enrolling in the course, check the eligibility requirements for a permit.

NPC schedules GED testing dates

NPC offers GED preparation courses throughout the district and GED testing once monthly in Show Low and Holbrook.
