Self Defense for Women

SHOW LOW — Women can increase their awareness of personal safety and build self confidence in their ability to defend themselves by participating in a Self Defense for Women noncredit workshop at Northland Pioneer College’s Show Low – White Mountain Campus, 1001 W. Deuce of Clubs, on Thursday, March 30, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Learning Center, room 108. There is a $20 fee for the workshop (reference STC 099x 50-74094).

Instructor Donna Krieser, at right in photo, is a third-degree black belt in the Okinawan Shorin-Ryu style of Japanese karate. She encourages all ages and generations of women to attend. “The class will be part lecture, part physical,” Krieser says, “with an emphasis on developing awareness of personal safety and building a woman's confidence in her abilities to protect herself.”

Krieser adds that students should dress comfortably in clothing they can move around in and bring drinking water as well. Additional information about the workshop may be obtained by telephoning the instructor at (928) 532-6142.

Sign up for either of the Self-Defense for Women workshops at least three days before the class starts to ensure it is not canceled due to insufficient enrollment.
