SNOWFLAKE — “Anyone can learn to do some kind of art and express their creative side,” explains Karen Warnick. Through a series of noncredit art classes this fall at Northland Pioneer College’s Snowflake – Silver Creek Campus, she’ll be sharing simple techniques to improve your artwork.

Classes will cover “Forms & Shapes,” “Value and Shading” and “Perspective Drawing.” Her classes are open to anyone 12 and older. All Snowflake classes will meet in the Learning Center, room 113.

Warnick has been an artist most of her life, learning some of her art from her mother, supplemented by studies in college. After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Education, she taught various art techniques at various Arizona junior high schools for 13 years. She has also taught for NPC’s Kids College and at the Show Low Campus and Springerville/Eagar Center. Her skills are varied and include drawing, wood burning, design creations, calligraphy, mosaics, gourds and pencil.

Her “Forms & Shapes” workshop, (reference ART 099x-94237), meets on Thursday evenings, Aug. 21 through Sept. 11, from 6 until 8 p.m. “Everything has a shape, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional,” noted Warnick. “These basic forms will improve your drawing ability, allowing you to see objects and re-create them with simple techniques to bring them to life.” The class costs $47, with $2 paid directly to the instructor for supplies.

“Adding depth and realism to drawings is all about dark and light contrasting. In the “Value & Shading” workshop, (reference ART 099x-94235), you’ll learn light to dark and how to use them in your art,” added Warnick. This class meets on Mondays, Sept. 18 to Oct. 23, also from 6 until 8 p.m. The cost is $57, with $2 paid directly to the instructor for supplies.

You don’t have to be an artist to use the simple steps of drawing in perspective. “The rules are easily learned and can be applied to any kind of drawing This class will be a great start for those who enjoy designing or architecture,” commented Warnick. The “Perspective Drawing” workshop (reference ART-94236) meets on Thursday evenings, Oct. 30 to Dec. 4, also from 6 to 8 p.m. The class costs $52, with $2 paid directly to the instructor for supplies.
