SHOW LOW – Learn the fundamentals of the ancient art of belly dancing in a noncredit “Beginning Belly Dancing” class at Northland Pioneer College’s Show Low – White Mountain Campus, in the Aspen Center, room 110, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 7 until 8 p.m., starting Oct. 15.

The class meets for 8-weeks, Oct. 15 through Dec. 5 (reference HPE 099x-65263) and costs $50. There will be no class on Nov. 28 when the college is closed for Thanksgiving.

“Belly dancing is an amazing form of self-expression as well as exercise.  The dance is very ancient and has many traditions and reasons for the dance,” noted instructor Glenna Constant. “What I love most about this beautiful dance is the self-esteem that it builds in women, and the sisterhood that it builds. Each person has a different type of personality and body type and that is what makes this dance so lovely. I very much enjoy the freedom to express myself through the dance.”

The beginning belly dancing class helps increase stamina, fluid movements, confidence and grace while learning choreographed free-style dance movements. Constant teaches techniques through demonstration and video. She has been belly dancing for over 12 years and has taught classes and done performances with troupes and solo.

“This is a fun, supportive class full of people who want to discover themselves and gain new friendships from fellow classmates,” added Constant. “I really hope to see you there!”
