March is Women’s History Month and all nine Northland Pioneer College libraries will be showing films depicting the contributions and struggles of women, both historically and in modern times.
The Women’s History Month Film Festival runs March 1 through 19. For a complete list of films, schedules and descriptions, visit www.npc.edu/WomensHistoryMonthFilmFestival.
Selections include documentaries and award-winning films about life in Afghanistan, China, Russia, India, Egypt, Israel and North American Native Reservations. Other films look at famous women in Arizona’s history – including Mary Jane Colter, Isabella Greenway King, Sharlot Hall, Frances Munds and Maie Bartlett Heard – and famous speeches by women in the suffragette and civil rights movements. Also featured is a documentary on The Sunrise Dance, the grueling rite of passage into adulthood for Apache girls.
