Financial Aid Specialist

Non-exempt Level II
Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Director of Financial Aid
Location: Painted Desert Campus, Holbrook, Arizona
General Statement of Responsibilities: To demonstrate a supportive attitude with students, staff and the general public; to have a positive working relationship with staff; to maintain a high level of professionalism; to ensure accuracy and timeliness of application processing for financial aid.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills: Office management, workflow procedural skills, ability to multitask and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work closely with others.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
    Associate’s Degree preferred, as well as knowledge of financial aid application processes, sources, procedures, and regulations. Experience with Jenzabar administrative software.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with steps necessary for application for financial aid.
  • Maintain and expedite financial aid files/applications through the processing cycle.
  • Provide information to students on all aspects of eligibility for and availability of financial aid.
  • Determine student financial aid eligibility and award eligible students.
  • Assist counselors and advisers with financial aid information and services.
  • Certify documents for tribal, state and local entities.
  • Monitor student’s satisfactory academic progress.
  • Monitor and assist with activities of students in the Federal Work Study Program.
  • Assist with creating and distributing scholarship information through district wide locations.
  • Assist with providing financial aid information and services to students through district wide site visits.
  • Assist with creating and distributing financial aid information, i.e.; newsletters, forms.
  • Respond to academic calendar of financial aid activities to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Conduct financial aid workshops for area groups.
  • Provide routine office functions, i.e.; data entry, processes mail, orders office supplies, answers telephone reports maintenance of office equipment, and prepares correspondence if needed.
  • Attend financial aid workshops/seminars.
  • Assist Director of Financial Aid and Financial Aid Adviser/Technician with various projects assigned.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends, depending on Financial Aid event and during College registration and graduation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation: sufficient physical dexterity to use a telephone, computer keyboard and other electronic equipment.  Critical sensory requirements include general vision, corrected to 20/20.  Hear and listen in the normal range (corrected) and speak and give directions clearly.  Ability to sit for long periods of time and do repetitive keying at  a computer terminal or computer.

Required License/ Certification:
  • Valid Arizona driver's license.
Compensation: Initial hiring range for this position is $12.04-$13.11 depending on experience.
