Required Qualifications

  • Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be college coursework and certification as an AZPOST or Fire Service Instructor or an Associate of Applied Science degree in Administration of Justice and/or Fire Science with demonstrated training and administrative experience.
  • At least five years of experience in an administrative or supervisory position, this includes budget administration.
  • At least five years documented Public Safety experience.
  • Experience in developing and teaching Public Safety curriculum.
  • Experience with working with state and local agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Safety Administration or Police Science or Corrections or Law Enforcement or Fire Science, or the equivalent.

Responsibilities

  1. Positively supports and promotes college governing board, administrator, faculty, staff, students & communities.
  2. Teach 12 loads.
  3. Principal lead in planning, development and evaluation of curriculum and student success.
  4. Develops and implements a vision for all public safety programs including AZPOST (Az. Peace Officer Standards and Training) and AzCFSE (Az. Center for Fire Science Excellence) programs that are aligned with the priorities and the strategic goals of the College;
  5. Manage all AZ POST & AzCFSE training academy functions, ensures the goals and objectives of AZ POST & AzCFSE training are attained; supervise and train professional and support personnel; establish and implement internal policies and procedures; develop and implement work standards and direct work assignment; review and approve unit work for quality control; motivate staff and evaluate performance.
  6. Manage college resources at NATC, including establishing and implementing internal policies and procedures for the use of the facility; determine scheduling needs for the facility, maintain proper maintenance of the facility, maintain proper inventory of equipment assigned to the facility.
  7. Provides recruitment, orientation, training, mentoring, evaluations, support and supervision for full-time, adjunct faculty and classified employees in the Public Safety programs.
  8. Coordinates and provides Public Safety training outreach activities including business partnerships, high school articulation (NAVIT), and regional occupational programs
  9. Prepare realistic and fiscally sound annual and special budgets to enable the Public Safety Training Department to achieve their goals, including oversight of purchasing equipment and supplies.
  10. Prepare a variety of reports and correspondence as requested or required.
  11. Develops and approves academic schedule for all public safety training programs.
  12. Establishes, maintains, and promotes effective relations, and communications with faculty, staff, college offices, professional organizations, and external agencies.
  13. Maintain membership in appropriate Public Safety organizations.
  14. Assists in the review, update, documentation and processes, procedures, protocols, website, catalog, and other media pertaining to Public Safety.
  15. Develops and maintains active and effective advisory committees related to Public Safety.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills Required

Ability to assess students for academic achievement; order and inventory supplies and equipment; plan, coordinate and organize courses and lab experiences; and work effectively with colleagues, students, and local/state agencies.

Knowledge of: Current standards in public safety training; knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes, AZ POST rules and Arizona Rules of Criminal and Administrative Procedures pertaining to peace officer recruitment, retention and training; safety regulations as it pertains to public safety occupations; computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.

Ability to: Maintain confidentiality; communicate a unified vision of collaborative public safety training with college staff, students, faculty, program chairs, and agency representatives; communicate effectively orally and in writing; communicate with agency leaders and training managers in order to maintain strong relationships and develop direction of program; perform conflict resolution skills and mediation skills where needed; plan and organize resources involving multiple priorities and deadlines in order to meet objectives; develop feasible short and long-range plans to develop programs and complete projects; identify problems or issues, analyze alternatives and develop viable recommendations; exercise independent judgment and/or initiative, take appropriate action and function with minimal supervision; monitor trends, conduct research, gather information and analyze a variety of data regarding public safety training programs.

Required License/ Certification

AZCFSE Fire Fighter 1 & 2 and Instructor 1 & 2 (may be obtained in the 1st year of employment) and AZ POST Certified Instructor; Valid Arizona driver’s license.

Compensation

Initial salary range of $52,762 to $73,868 depending on education and experience.
