MEDICAL ASSISTANT

The Medical Assistant program prepares students to enter health care professions. The program provides continuing education opportunities for advancement beyond entry level positions into possible supervisory positions as office managers or clinic coordinators.

Certificate holders will be skilled in medical office practices, such as insurance billing codes and transcription, patient care procedures and diagnostic laboratory techniques useful in assisting the medical practitioner in patient treatment. A skilled Medical Assistant can find employment opportunities in many local health care agencies. Examples of career choices are medical assistant, medical secretary, medical office personnel ?specializing in insurance coding and billing.

Associate of Applied Science • 64 Cr.

Before being admitted to the Medical Assistant program, student must pass EMT 101 with a grade of 'C' or better. The AAS consists of 25 general education credits, 30 core requirement credits, and 9 credits of required electives.

Certificate of Applied Science


To complete a Certificate in Applied Science in Medical Assistant, a student must complete the core requirement credits, MAT 103 and ENL 101.

Certificate of Proficiency • 30 cr.


To complete a Certificate of Proficiency in Medical Assistant, a student must complete the core requirement credits.
