Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How many semesters does the STEM grant cover?
A: Four: 2 Fall and 2 Spring semesters, that is 2 academic years, from when you receive the STEM grant. You will receive $4,000 per academic year, $8,000 total, as long as you remain in good academic standing. The 2009 grant starts with the Fall '09 semester which begins on August 24, 2009.
Q: What does the money I receive from the STEM grant cover?
A: This grant should be more than enough to cover NPC tuition, books, supplies and your travel costs. You may use the $4,000 any way you wish and do NOT have to return any unused money.
Q: Do I have to reapply again for the STEM grant in my second year at NPC?
A: No. Once you are awarded the grant it covers two academic years.
Q: Do I have to finish my Associate of Science degree in two years?
A: No, but the grant only covers 2 academic years. No more money is given after that point.
Q: How do I know my Associate of Science degree will transfer to a university?
A: NPC has transfer agreements from all three of Arizona's state universities (Northern Arizona, Arizona State, University of Arizona) that guarantee your Associate of Science degree will transfer completely. However, you must still meet the university's requirements for completing the last two years of your bachelor's.
Q: What is the minimum number of credits I must take per semester?
A:16 credits per semester for 4 semesters. You can lower your semester load by taking classes in the summer semester.
Q: If I take classes in NPC's summer semester, are they covered by the grant?
A: No, but you may have enough money left over after expenses from the Fall and Spring semester to put towards the Summer.
Q: What is the minimum GPA I must maintain while taking classes at NPC through the STEM grant?
A: 2.0 GPA, a C or better in every class you take.
Q: Can I still get Pell grants and other financial awards along with the STEM grant?
A: Yes. That is why we encourage you to fill out the FAFSA report, so that you can receive any other financial awards you are eligible for including scholarships and Pell grants.
Q: Can I declare another major besides science?
A: No, you must meet ALL the requirements of the Associate of Science degree.
