Automotive Technology (ATO) courses

ATO 100 • Engine Repair 5 cr.

Fundamentals of automotive engine operation, service and repair of automotive engines, and the diagnosis and overhaul procedures related to these engines. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. Two lecture, six lab.

ATO 101 • Safety and Hazardous Materials 1 cr.

Introduction to hazardous materials encountered in automotive repair environment. Students gain understanding of Hazard Communication Regulations as well as how to utilize Material Safety Data Sheets to identify, handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials. Proper personal protective equipment also covered. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. One lecture.

ATO 102 • Engine Performance 3 cr.

Covers systems related to engine performance and drivability. Includes: ignition systems, fuel systems, computerized engine controls, drivability diagnosis, exhaust emission controls and scan data diagnosis. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. One lecture, fourlab.

ATO 104 • Automatic Transmission Systems 1 cr.

Covers operation, diagnosis, service, repair, and overhaul of automatic transmissions and transaxles. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. Two lab.

ATO 106 • Brake Systems 4 cr.

Covers operating principles, service, and troubleshooting procedures of automotive brake systems. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. One lecture, six lab.

ATO 200 • Electrical and Electronic Systems 7 cr.

General electrical system diagnosis and repair, battery diagnosis and service, starting and charging system diagnosis and repair, lighting systems, guages, warning devices, horns, wiper/washers and power operated accessories. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. Two lecture, ten lab.

ATO 202 • Heating and Air Conditioning Systems 4 cr.

Operation, diagnosis, service and repair of automotive heating and air conditioning systems. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. One lecture, six lab.

ATO 204 • Manual Drive Train 2 cr.

Operation, service and repair of manual drive and axle systems. Instruction covers clutch systems, manual transmissions, manual transaxles, front wheel drive axle shafts, and CV joints, rear wheel drive universal joints, drive shafts, rear axles and four-wheel drive units. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. One lecture, two lab.

ATO 206 • Suspension and Steering Systems 5 cr.

Operation, diagnosis, service and repair of suspension and steering systems including front and rear suspensions, wheels, tires, and steering. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score in general education reading test. One lecture, eight lab.
